One of themost important democratic aspects of theInternet, often overlooked, has been the creation of private onlinespaces. Some societies for example disregard citizens privacy infavour of monitoring and surveying their activities online, such asthe sending of emails and creation of websites. Even in relativelydemocratic societies, exploited and/or marginalised sections ofsocieties, can only organise against their oppression by being ableto 'self-determine' their own agendas. A critical aspect of this isbeing able to discuss and debate in private, safe spaces.
