Most parents don’t have the same technical know-how that their children have…but don’t worry…you don’t have to have a degree in computer science to learn how to keep your children safe. InternetSafetyZone have created four sections for you to browse and pick up the basic information and safety tips. For those of you who want to know more – just click on the links on every page that take you deeper. All of our pages contain short written descriptions but many of them also have links to videos, leaflets and newspaper articles which can help you explore the issues further.

A good place to start. Here you will find basic explanations about the internet, social networking technologies, gaming and mobile phones, as well as the main safety issues associated with each. The Worries

Do you keep hearing and reading things in the media that worry you? Not sure what these things are and how to deal with them? This section explains some of the main issues that you might have heard of but never knew what they were or how to deal with them. This Includes: illegal content, online grooming, child abuse, cyberbullying, prejudice and hatred, and privacy & data protection. The articles in this section also help to clarify the issues you should talk through with your children, as well as how various organisations can help with these issues. Read More...

Safety messages

Technology moves very fast, and every week it seems like a new threat emerges. This section takes you though all the safety messages that you need to be aware of. There are also links to those areas of InternetSafetyZone where each information relating to each of these messages is available in two formats for you to look at with your children, one for 13 yrs and over, the other for younger age groups. Occasionally when using the internet or a mobile phone you may see, receive or experience something which causes you concern. You might, for instance, receive an e-mail which is offensive or abusive. You may experience harassment online, spam advertising, or content you find offensive such as pornography, or pro-anorexia sites. Alternatively you may think you have been the victim of a crime such as identity theft or online fraud. In such situations it is important to know to whom you can report issues. This section introduces you to some of the main organisations who offer help and advice on internet safety issues.
